Dan's Bio
Dan is a professional musician (he plays the French horn), and he is running his FIRST marathon, way to go! He is joining us due to the inspiration of his friend Joy Airaudi, a former RVA board member. He saw Joy's dedication to the cause and continues to see her interest in serving rape survivors and has agreed to run 26.2 miles as proof of his own dedication--awesome!!!

Product Review for "Runner's Leg"
Hi Gang,
I'd like to post my first product review. I have "runner's leg." That mean, whenever I approach the start line, I look down and realize I forgot to shave my legs. Whoops.
I tried out that new Sally Hansen spray on 3 minute shower hair remover foam as a convenient way to get ready for a long run at 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, so I don't cut off my leg shaving. Pretty darn cool--I recommend you try a bottle, available at your fine pharmacy or neighborhood grocery store...

Runner Profile - Hilary Slover
Hi Runners,
And happy Tuesday; today I would like to introduce one of our runners, Hilary Slover:
Hilary is 23, and she is currently in graduate school for Applied Social Psychology at Loyola University. She works as a research assistant on projects dealing with drug offenders on probation and the Mental Health Court in Illinois. She also teaches indoor cycling and leads a running class at the school gym (amazing!) Wheile she was an undergraduate, she started running as a way to try and lose weight. She signed up for her first big race in 2008, the Minnie Marathon 15k. She was hooked after that! She loves to run in races, with the crowd of people as her motivators along the way. Running is always a mental challenge for Hilary, and she always feels exceptionally accomplished after a long run because she has to be so strong-minded to get through it. She joined RVA's team because she feels this is an amazing organization that deserves support. So many girls have been through such traumatic events, and showing them love and support through what Hilary does well makes such a difference in their lives! Way to go, Hilary, and welcome to team Running Against Rape!!!

Who Inspires You to Run?
Who inspires you to get out of bed at dawn and go run insane distances wearing a funny belt and a hat with holes in it? Coach Joe from Chicago Endurance Sports gave me a great tip while huffing and puffing on the only hot day last year when I ran 14 miles--dedicate your runs to someone who inspires you. This morning I was going to dedicate my run to Tamara, my advisor at DePaul. Unfortunately, I overslept and missed this morning's run. Oops:) Well, I am dedicating today's morning off to the fabulous staff at RVA. I figure all the women who work at RVA could use a day off. The staff at RVA always say "thank you for all that you do"--no, ladies, thank YOU for all that you do! My day off today is for you:)
Who inspires you to run? Feel free to post below!
Runner Bio of the Day- Suzanne Alton
Good afternoon, Blog Followers!
I am hoping to post a different runner bio each day of the week highlighting the different individuals who are supporting RVA's fundraising efforts by participating in Running Against Rape 2010 this year. Below is me in a nutshell:
I have been a volunteer with Rape Victim Advocates since 2008, and I ran my FIRST marathon last year after only having previously run a 5k in my life. I was also 20 pounds overweight and had bronchitis, but I survived, living proof that ANYBODY can run when they believe in a cause! The 2010 Chicago Marathon will be my second marathon; I am honored to be hosting this blog. I recently graduated from DePaul University with an M.S. in Public Service Management and took the June LSAT simultaneously. I am a paralegal at a small litigation firm in the Chicago Loop. In my spare time I like to play with my dog Lily, volunteer, and watch old horror movies while drinking cheap pink champagne and eating popcorn. I am a sucker for jewelry and purses but am lucky if I can find a pair of matching socks on the way out the door to work in the morning. I am, most importantly, not afraid to talk about rape!
